Forum Profile Editor, Avatar Update, and Other Tips

The editor for people’s profiles in the forum section is now working properly, so it’s no longer requiring you to enter one long line with no break.  I think you’ll find this works better.

Second, I spoke with the website guys, who told me that the 100 x 100 pixel limit on the avatar is there because a larger avatar will apparently shrink the width of the text column, which is the real point of the page.  We can override their recommendation if people want to, but we’ll see if the 100 x 100 pixel avatar is manageable.  They recommended this online image editor that can help people resize avatars: https://www.imageeditor.net.  I can’t say I’ve used it yet, but people should feel free to post any feedback.

Finally, they also suggested a tool that people might want to try, called www.tinyurl.com, which is a website that allows people to input a really, really long web address, and then it will make a re-direct web page with a very short web address as a substitute that you can enter into a post thread.  This way, you can enter the short version in a comment without having to refer to a web address for an article or other link that is 3 lines long and messes up the formatting on the page.  It might be a useful tool for people.

That’s it.  If anyone has other tips that might make things more user-friendly, I’m happy to take advice.

I managed to get in a profile-thanks to the technical fixer-uppers. I admit I am totally stumped with this Avatar - I will try again tomorrow. Computer-1 Linda-0!

Thanks for the tip, Chanwit. And we’ll just see if the avatars are manageable. I can always see if the tech guys can make a “how to” sheet, and in the meantime, we can manage without them.
